Truly a classic trailer sailor, with a roomy cabin, stout retracting
keel, and the easiest boat I have ever launched and retrieved.
Herb Stewart was the first to manufacture the West Wight Potter in the
US, and he designed and built the HMS 18 to be the bigger brother of the
West Wight Potter. He ultimately sold the company, and the new owners
included the length of the motor mount and marketed the boat as the West
Wight Potter 19! Herb Stewart was known for his high build quality,
which is evident when you see and sail this 34 year old boat! This is
Hull # 33
You've got to sail it to believe it! This boat sails great...when it's
really blowing, we're often the only boat on the Bay!
This is a very solid, seaworthy, stable boat, and it feels like a much
bigger boat.
Unfortunately, my brother's new job has him traveling all over Europe,
Central, and south America, so he is never around to sail.
We put a ton of work (and money!) into this boat, and everything is done
right. We get LOTS of compliments on this boat...it looks fantastic.
My brother and I did a complete topsides re-fit in 2006 including:
2 coats of Petit Easypoxy Hi-build Primer
2 coats of Easypoxy single component polyurethane
New IDA Sailor composite rudder
New CDI Flexible Furler
New 140% Genoa (Elvstom Sobstad Sailmakers)
New Mainsail (Elvstrom Sobstad Sailmakers)
New Thin film bottom paint
Proper boom vang added
Done in 2005:
New keel raising winch/blocks/cables, conveniently located for the helmsman
Trailer primed, painted, side guides added, new wheel bearings, new
wheels and tires, lights and wiring, etc.
