1979 Blackwatch 18
The company that made these, in Amarillo TX, Blue Water Boat works (Dave Autry), initially called it a 24. In fact on the two that I have seen, on the drop boards/hatch boards, the company carved/engraved "Blackwatch 24" plus the hull number. For example, in the Octorber 1979 issue of "Sail" magazine, an article Texas Traditional" begins, "This traditional-looking 24-foot trailer/sailer has some unique features..." The line drawing is also labelled "Blackwatch 24." The specs in that article are listed as:
l.o.a. 24'0" (including bowsprit)
l.o.d. 18'6"
l.w.l. 17'6"
They later started calling these a Blackwatch 18.
In a much later article in "Good Old Boat" January/February 1999, Sven Donaldson refers to it as a Blackwatch 19 and notes that the boat is 18'6" on deck. The length over all has been measured at just over 23'.
