I found 5 fawns in the back yard yesterday, with a few does and a buck. A bit after I took this video there were 6 fawns, the most I've seen at once this year.

The fawns are usually born beginning in July, with some perhaps in August. Soon after the fawns are born, the bucks start losing the velvet on their antlers and the mating season, or rut, begins. After some competition between the adult males, the whitetail mate in October/November.

  • Llano county has the best whitetail hunting in Texas, or perhaps the worst deer overpopulation problem. About 17,000 deer are harvested each year in Llano county, providing good meat for thousand of people.
