The 2003 Wurstfest Regatta had challenging winds that would come and go. Winds were better on Sunday. I crewed for Bill in his Dolphin 17 in the Portsmouth class. We managed a 1st in the 2nd race on Saturday, but the other races we enjoyed ourselves following the other boats.
We were on the course by the dam, with the Flying Scots, so we missed seeing all the other races. The other classes included Lasers, Sunfish, Optimist, 420, Vanguard 15 and several other classes.
Well run races, the food was fantastic, and great Texas beer afterwards ensured a good time by all. The Lake Canyon Yacht Club Wurstfest Regattas are one of my favorites.
Alison and I crewed for Jack on the 2nd weekend in his International Tempest. Sorry I didn't get any film, but the Tempest is a real handful. Saturday was light wind and we managed a 2nd in one race. Sunday was a different story, with winds about 20 and gusting to 30 we were able to test the Tempest's rigging quite well. It's the only keelboat I've ever planed without a spinnaker, a wild ride. We got third in our class, pretty good for Jack's first regatta.
