Chip bought a 1977 Catalina 27, and Alison and I were lucky enough to accompany him on the 20 mile trip up Lake Travis to bring it home to Spicewood. We left Anderson Mill Marina and sailed a few miles, until the wind slackened. Since we had still had over 15 miles to go and it was already afternoon, we started the outboard. At just above idle we made about 3.5 knots. This Catalina 27 had an outboard "well" on the back with a cover, so it was pretty quiet.
This is a pretty long video, so I broke it up into sections by mile marker. The lake elevation was about 663 feet or so because of the recent rains. Lake Travis is 65 miles long, winding back and forth between Lake Austin and Lake Marble Falls. We went from Anderson Mill Marina, which is on the north side of the lake a mile or so from the main channel, where we found buoy 6, which is 6 miles from the dam. We traveled up to mile marker 25 to the beginnings of Spicewood. We sailed around Hudson Bend, passing the arm going to Jonestown on the north at Stares Island. Then we passed Lakeway on the south, and headed north to see Lago Vista on our right and almost to Briarcliff on the left. Although we were traveling west, the lake winds so that we found ourselves going north and south a lot, even east.
