The annual Little Brown Jug race held by the Stillhouse Sailing Club is a lot of fun. Last year it was windy, and this year it wasn't. Eight boats competed for the trophies, and 4 managed to finish before the wind died completely. It was a day for the dinghies, as they used every piece of air they could to good advantage, while the keelboats fell further behind.
I took an early lead in my Flying Scot and made it around mark E in first, when I sailed into a hole and first John Luzus in the Raider and then Marty Robinette in his Rebel 16 passed me by sailing upstream a ways and finding wind. A very good move on their part. Jim Brown closed the gap after buoy J and also passed me not far from the finish.
John Luzius took first in his Raider, he kept the boat moving and made good use of that spinnaker.
Marty Robinette and his daughter Emilie won second in their Rebel 16, partly because Emilie donated 5 hairs to use for wind indicators during the race. Now that's a good crew!
