Eleanor was built by MIT for the 2009 World Solar Challenge in Australia. It has a more upright seating position for the driver, and with thirty percent more frontal area it has the same wind drag. It can cruise at 55 mph all day on solar power alone.

Plans are to drive the car across the United States to practice for the World Solar Challenge. Eleanor is powered by six square meters of photovoltaics, the unveiling ceremony at MIT is February 27, 2009
