Produced from 1969 to 1995, the Catalina 22 MK I is one of the longest continuously produced sailboats in the world. As of 2009, there have been three versions. It has been made most commonly in Swing Keel, Fin Keel, and Wing Keel. Frank Butler introduced the Catalina 22 in 1969, hoping to build 100 boats. In 1975 hull #5,000 was finished. In 1980, Sail Magazine names the Catalina 22 "trailerable boat of the decade" and hull #10,000 was completed. In 1990 hull #15,000 is done. The Catalina 22 Mark II is introduced in 1995 with re-designed and enlarged deck, new interior and features a wider beam for a more spacious cockpit. The Catalina 22 is named as one of five charter members to the Sailboat Hall of Fame. In 2005 the Catalina 22 Sport is introduced. |
