Use the new bow eye to be sure you drill the new holes in the right place! My replacement bow eye had it's holes in a slightly different pattern and the old hole locations would not work.

Clean the bow eye well! Sand the excess Marine-Tex off the deck. You want the bottom of the bow eye to actually be glued to the deck! Fill the holes with 3M 5200 Fast Dry Marine Adhesive. You can use the slow cure, but it requires 5 to 7 days to cure. I don't like the caulking tube size, this stuff is THICK and hard to get out of the tube so you need a good caulking gun. Spread a coating around the holes for the bow eye to bed in, not only glueing it to the deck but also sealing out the water.
Place the bow eye over the holes and screw all 4 screws in part way before you tighten any. |
Tighten the screws, but not too tight.
Wipe off the excess 3M 5200 Fast Dry with some paper towels. Leave it alone for a few days for the 5200 to cure and you'll be able to lift the boat with the bow eye again!
