Lake Travis has many cities and towns surrounding it, Lakeway, Hundson Bend, Vineyard Bay, Spicewood, Briarcliff, Lago Vista, Jonestown and more. Construction continues, and boat traffic continues to increase as more homes and marinas are built. The water level flunctuates as rainfall is stored for later use by farmers downstream. The regular flooding that occured before the Highland Lakes were built has been greatly reduced.

The Austin Yacht Club is a racing club with very good facilities and participation.
