1988 Bay Hen 21

  • built by the Florida Bay Boat Company in 1988.

These boats are fantastic little day-sailors perfect for lakes, bays and sounds. She only draws about a foot with the twin keel-boards up and all running rigging is in the cockpit for easy single handed sailing. The best way to describe this gem is a 21 foot weekender/ day-sailor, sharpie cat with a gaff rig and tabernacle mast...if that makes any sense.

Starting from the top she has her original "tanbark" sail with a nifty jiffy reef system. Her mast can be stepped by one person in about 5 minutes or less. The sail cover is a little worn but still usable. There is no standing rigging needed. It has a small cuddy cabin with plenty of room to sleep two people and there is more than enough storage, a small sliding shelf with a basin for washing up and a port-o-pot. The cabin cushions are like new. On deck there is a bimini top. This is one of the only trailer sailors that can be sailed with the bimini up. If the weather is a little cool then zip in the dodger and to get a little shut eye on deck add two sides and a rear and you have a complete "summer cabin". The summer cabin is like new. Also included are seat cushions also like new and a marina cover, still in good shape.

Without wind there is a reliable Nissan 4 stroke 4 Horsepower motor that starts on one pull. Also included is an Arrow galvanized trailer that is in perfect condition. She can be towed easily with a small truck or car. I tow her with no problem in my little Toyota 4cyl pick-up truck.

Some condition issues. The port side topsides paint is faded by the sun. I have tried to polish it out with mixed results. The abutive paint can use another coat. There are several small places where the jell coat is cracking on deck but it should not be an issue, an easy fix on a weekend. Another weekend project would be to add another coat on the rubrails.
