1973 Barnett Butterfly
Length: 12 feet 2 inches
Beam: 4 feet 6 inches
Sail Area 75 sq.feet
This well made small boat is a perfect choice for a junior or beginning sailor. It also has enough sail area for an adult to have a ball when the wind pipes up. It is particularly fun and easy to plane off the wind. Unlike Lasers and Sunfish, it features a rotating, stayed mast with a large mainsail that is raised by means of a halyard. This facilitates fast and easy rigging if you can leave the boat near the water with the mast stepped. The mast separates into 2 sections to enable easy transport. The Butterfly was originally designed to be transported via car-top. The boat is in nice condition. The hull and deck were recently refinished with good quality marine polyurethane paint. The sail is in unused condition and is very crisp and should be competitive in most fleets. The aluminum rudder and oak tiller are in very good condition. The Honduran mahogany centerboard and oak hiking rails were refinished with spar varnish. The spars are true. The trailer is galvanized and light weight. The bearings were recently re-packed and the tires are new. The lights work well. New bunks were recently installed and fitted with new carpeting. They should help keep the hull in its present good condition. There are no soft spots on the hull or deck. Sailboats of this length do not require registration or titles in Texas. Will furnish a bill of sale for the shop built trailer. The trailer requires a 2 inch ball.
