1987 ComPac 16/2
This boat has a fixed keel (no moving parts to break), a draft of only 18
inches, a cabin with 2 berths (8ft) with cushions, and a 6ft 11inch cockpit!
Please note that this is a Com-Pac 16/2, the 2 refers to an important design
change which included the adding of a bow sprit, increasing the size of the
jib to improve balance and performance, the addition of genoa tracks, and a
highly finished cabin. Most Com-Pac 16's before 1987 do not have these
modifications! Be careful when comparing.
This particular boat comes with:
3 Sails: 1 main and 2 genoas 123 % and 155% (all in good condition, no tears
or tape)
4hp Mercury outboard (2000): very good condition (although has not been used this year), the outboard has a "piggyback" gas tank on engine itself
avoiding having to bring gasoline on board. I have two small children so
this was a great feature for us. Also, not having a gas can on board
eliminates the fumes that often prevent other owners from overnighting in
the cabin.
Cockpit bimini (shade cover)
Electronics: cockpit mounted compass and knotmeter
Cockpit cushions: New 2002
Boarding ladder
Deep cell marine battery for running lights, cabin light, compass/knotmeter
light, with an "cigarette lighter" adaptor for cell phones etc. (will need
charge)
Boom vang
Hutchins galvanized trailer: good condition, surface rust only, tires in
good shape, bearing buddies (only used once since repacked) *I have a title to trailer, boat is currently registered in my name (NC does not require title). I have, however, ordered a title just to make life easier for whoever buys the boat.
Issues:
The deck at one time was painted, the paint has since been removed
by a previous owner leaving some cosmetic areas (see photos). A minor
professional repair of the front of the keel was made in the past (see
photos). The bottom has never been painted so you can see the overall good
condition it is in (no hidden problems). The small stainless cover for the
chain locker on deck has a broken hinge but remains functional. The chain
locker in the bow is no longer used because a much more convenient rail
mounted one has been made from pvc.
This boat is very stable, easy to launch and rig, sails in very shallow
water, reasonably priced parts are readily available (Hutchins Marine), and
should give it's next owner years of low cost use. There really are very few
small boats out there that can fit in your garage yet provide the
versatility that this little cruising sloop can. I am only selling because I
have purchased another boat (picking it up next week!). You are welcome to
inspect the boat. I'm happy to answer any questions.
Thanks David, looks like she's sold! Please list her as such on your site.
Many thanks to you and your fine site!!!
A note: I had several email contacts shortly after the listing went up.
They were poorly written, wanting to pay immediately with casheirs check,
and seemed very suspect. I took your advise and deleted them. Just wanted
to let you know. Much thanks, Tom
