1990 ComPac 23/3
made by Hutchins Co.
23'11" overall
8' beam
27" draft
Sail area 250 sq.ft.
displacement 3000 lbs.
Traditional styling, designed by Clark Millls, similar to pilot boats designed by Colin Archer, she is able to handle rough conditions, yet is still fast off the wind.
4 Comfortable berths, 6-bronze opening ports, 1 large hatch, and 1 cowl-vent allow plenty of ventilation and all but the cowl vent come with screens.
Large cockpit can seat 6, laminated wood tiller. Alcohol stove, pump sink, port-a-pot, lots of storage space.
Purchased new, I am the one and only owner, sailed in fresh water only, very well maintained There were 4 seasons I couldn't sail and boat was stored ashore. Stored indoors the years I lived in the midwest (6 winters). New bottom job with barrier coat this year.
Only 10 holes ever drilled 5 for VHF and antennae connections, 4 for bimini, 1 to replace foredeck fitting of plastic with bronze. So she is ready for you to customize.
Parts replaced parts with equivalent or better. New bimini installed 2006, 2001 UK main, 1994 135% jib, hatchboards are solid teak. You may hear of rudder slop on older Compacs. I had Torlon bushings installed and have had no problems (this is the material Schaeffer uses in roller-furling bearings). Recently replaced blocks for halyards and mainsheet. Hefty backing plates installed for mainsheet blocks, genoa track, and bow-eye.
Her name "Thunderchild" was hand-painted with 1 part urethane boot-stripe paint on the sides. I would include dock lines, anchor, anchor line, flares, life jackets, so she would be ready to sail.
8 hp Honda 4-stroke outboard with extra long shaft. This is before Honda switched to the larger block for the 8 hp so it is only 77 pounds. I believe the new ones are around 84-88. This motor just went through an extensive overhaul with new gaskets, water pump, and ignition unit.
The trailer had new tires, new surge brake activator and hitch unit all in 2005.
David,
Thanks for the ad space. The boat has been sold. I believe they found the ad I placed on the yacht club webpage, but if I find out differently I'll let you know.
Interesting thing was that my wife was perusing your boats for sale and we located a boat that we loved. We didn't buy one of the ones listed here (got a better deal on a dealer's demo), but we found the Vanguard Nomad. If you haven't paid attention to one, take a look, the have an amazing design, 17 feet of cockpit basically. They look like a mini volvo open racer with a traditional bit mixed in (with the bowsprit and what amounts to bulwarks framing the bow of the boat).
Thanks,
Richard
