1987 Hunter 28.5

  • The Hunter 28.5 is a great sailing boat and the fin keel configuration helps it point very well.

I bought this boat in 1999 and have upgraded many items in the last 7 years. The boat is a fresh water boat and has never been off Kentucky Lake. All the exterior teak is varnished with Sikkens and is as beautiful as any million dollar yacht. Check out the pictures and see for yourself. The boat includes general safety equipment, dock lines and fenders. It is ready to sail.

    Specifications

  • LOA 28.5 feet
  • Beam 10.5 feet
  • Draft 5' 2" deep fin keel
  • Disp 7000 lbs
  • Keel 3000 lbs
  • Engine Yanmar 16 HP Diesel
  • Water 25 Gallons
  • Holding 15 Gallons
  • Fuel 11 Gallons

    Accommodations

  • The Hunter 28.5 is an open design that takes advantage of Hunter's grid inner liner to eliminate the need for bulkheads for structural strength. It has a comfortable V-berth for 2 forward and a cabin for two with a door aft. The settee can sleep two as well. The sole was replaced in 2003 teak and holly.

    Galley

  • The galley is located to port has a two-burner alcohol stove, ice box and sink with hot & cold running water. Ample storage complements the galley

    Head

  • The head is located to starboard and also has hot & cold running water and a shower. There is ample storage in the head and a wet locker for foul weather gear. The head was replaced about five years ago and was rebuilt in the spring of 2007. The holding take can be pumped over board with the hand pump.

    Engine

  • The Yanmar diesel runs flawless and has low hours (est. 800hrs). It uses no oil and is very clean. Access to the engine is from under the companionway steps and from a removable panel in the aft cabin. The transmission and shaft are easily accessible from the panel under the aft berth. Oil changes and maintenance are a snap. It runs quiet and smooth. The fuel tank holds 11 gallons.

    Electronics

  • The boat is equipped with a Standard Horizon Eclipse VHF marine radio and a Jensen stereo. It has four speakers - two inside and two in the cockpit. A knot meter and depth meter are located at the helm mounted in pods to either side of the compass. Also included is a Autohelm 3000 autopilot.

    Electrical

  • There are two batteries (2005) that are charge by the engine alternator. They are controlled by a 1-2-both battery switch and either can be set as a house or start battery. The boat is equipped with many interior lights as well as typical masthead and running lights. The boat is equipped with shore power that allows use of the interior 120 volt outlets and will also heat the water in the water heater.

    Plumbing

  • The boat is equipped with a 25 gallon potable water tank and a six gallon water heater. Water can be heated by the engine coolant or by shore power. The water gets very hot and I have taken many of showers the next day. The holding tank is 15 gallons and has a pump out on deck and can pumped over board with the manual pump. The electric bilge pump is controlled by an automatic float switch or manually.

    Deck and Hull

  • The hull is white fiberglass with blue and yellow accents. The cockpit is laid out so that the helmsman can operate the headsail and mainsail from the wheel. The primary winches are two-speed and self tailing. There in one cabin top winch to operate the halyards that lead aft. Forward is a anchor locker with Dan forth anchor and 200' of chain & 1/2" rope rode. The cockpit is spacious and includes a teak cockpit table. The steering is a 26" destroyer style wheel with a custom leather cover and Turks-heads that mark center.

    Sails

  • The mainsail was replace in October 2005 and has been hoisted about 10 times. It was custom built by Doyle Sails in Detroit and has the maximum roach allowed by PHRF. It has a 2+2 tapered rat battens and a very nice shape. The main has a single slab reef system. The headsail is a 135% genoa. The roller furling is Hood 700 and was new in 2000. Also included is an older but serviceable 150% genoa and the original mainsail.
