The Alan Gurney designed Islander 36 is a great design, sails like a dream and was recognized as one of the top ten cruising boats of all time by Cruising World. With more than 700 built, the Islander 36 was one of the most successful California production cruisers of its day. Well-proportioned and of moderate displacement, she can also deliver surprising performance in a wide range of conditions. Some have circumnavigated, but most are used for weekend and coastal cruising, and competitive 'round-the-buoys club racing.
You will find I-36's now sailing in the Caribbean, San Francisco Bay, Mediterranean, and French Polynesia. This is the same model young Zac Sunderland sailed solo around the world!
The interior is warm and comfortable with teak and some oak and pine woodwork. There is a large double berth forward with enclosed head between the v-berth and main salon - which has two settees (one converts to a double bunk.) Aft to port is a quarter berth (or storage) area, and Nav station. Headroom is great. Galley is starboard as you STEP (not climb) down into the cabin. The salon table uniquely folds away out of site when not in use but opens to a either a half-size work table or a full dining table.
Most successful Islander design, over 700 built, and sailing worldwide.
