1979 Islander Freeport 41 Ketch, Phase II

    Hull Construction

  • Phase II has a full keel displacement configuration with a curved stem, wineglass underbody, and transom stern, constructed of molded fiberglass laminate reinforced by FRP on hardwood grider-type longitudinal stringers, transverse stiffeners, and partial non-watertight bulkheads. Exterior topsides finish is light tan pigmented gelcoat, and interior hull surfaces and reinforcements are covered with white marine deck enamel. Through hull hardware is bronze with seacocks. The hull bottom was stripped and found in good structural condition. The bottom was refinished with one (1) coat of Interlux( 1000 barrier coat, five (5) coats of Interlux( 2000 barrier coat, one coat of Trinidad hard paint and two coats of ablative.

    Deck and House

  • Phase II is an Islander Freeport 41 Ketch configuration with a center cockpit and raised pilothouse with forward and side brows and a permanent hardtop with canvas and strata-glass forward, side and aft enclosures. The weather deck, cockpit sole and coaming, and raised cabin trunks fore and aft are integrated into a single unit constructed of molded fiberglass and bonded to the hull by an overlapped and bonded sheer clamp under a raised bulwark and a mahogany toe rail.
  • The cabin soles are teak and holly on boxed hardwood beams and fitted with flush hatches. All interior cabin trim and berthing is bright-finished mahogany, and deck hardware is chromed bronze and stainless steel.

    Rigging

  • The Spars are extruded aluminum with enamel and Awlgrip( coating, stayed by 3/16" to 5/16" 1X19 stainless steel wire with Stalok( and Heat Swaged( end fittings over internally through-bolted chain plates. The main mast is stepped on the keel and the mizzenmast is stepped over a compression post in the aft stateroom bulkhead.

    Crew and Vessel Safety

  • Included is a 45# Delta Plow Anchor with 200' of 3/8" chain rode. Also a 35# HT (Danforth) Anchor with 30' of 3/8 chain and 100 feet of 3/4" nylon rode. On the foredeck is a Simpson-Lawrence SeaWolf( anchor windlas. The decks are surrounded with duel strand lifelines on chromed bronze stanchions. There are 4 portable fire extinguishers plus a #10 engine room DC extinguisher. There is a duel mode electric manual/automatic bilge pump as well as a hand bilge pump in the cockpit. The main engine has a hand change over which, will also cause the engine to function as an emergency auxiliary bilge pump.

    Navigation and Communication

  • In addition to the standard international navigation lighting there is a Silva Steering compass. The VHF radio is a Horizon INTREPID( 25W radiotelephone with automatic emergency distress function that registers the Lat/Lon from a permanently mounted GPS in the binnacle. The radio may be operated by a remote RAM Mike also located in the cockpit on the on the binnacle. In the main salon has a chronometer and a barometer. Also included is an ICOM IC 735 single-side band/ HAM radio. In the binnacle is a Sitex GPS 7 Navigator. On the forward wall of the cockpit is a Datamarine knotmeter and log as well as a Datamarine fathometer. Finally, the boat may be steered by the Autohelm ST 4000 Pilot.

    Berthing and Creature Comfort

  • There are two staterooms each with a separate head as well as separate wash basins. The rear head is equipped with a shower. The aft stateroom has four windows or ports in the transom. The vessel has Eastern Marine R/C air conditioning. The galley is equipped with an LPG Hille Range and oven as well as a Sharp Carrousel microwave oven and a NovaCool/Adler Barbour marine refrigeration system. There is a built-in AM/FM Stereo system with cassette and an 11-inch Television. The water is A/C electrically heated and the water system is pressurized by DC electric pump. Also there is a full weather cloth deckhouse enclosure.

    Miscelaneous Rigging and Gear

  • The main and mizzen sails have covers and the furling jib has a U/V boarder. Includes mooring lines and two pneumatic fenders. On the cabin top there are 4 solar panels, which will provide electricity for lights and refrigeration for 24 hours alone. The stern davits hold a 9' Boston Whaler fiberglass dinghy painted to match the vessel. There are a large number of extras too numerous to mention here. This boat has been kept as immaculate as possible. The owner is open to answering any questions the perspective buyer may have.
