1979 J/24

  • 24' LOA
  • 8' Beam
  • 4' Draft
  • 2948# displacement w/ J-24 class specified equipment included

Bavaria II (USA1965) is in good condition. The hull is solid and dry. It has never seen salt water. Some cosmetic spider surface cracking, mostly around the old style hatches. The boat is dry sailed so their is no paint on the bottom. The bottom and keel are not very pretty to look at, but they have been sanded (2000 grit) and polished to a mirror finish. Occasionally raced short handed so the pole lift and guy are still lead to cockpit and cabin top winches still in place. Other than that the boat has a "standard" racing setup and current class measurement certificate.

1993 Melges all aluminum trailer is in excellent condition... its probably worth as much as the boat! Single axle make for easy handling in the boat yard, but we have traveled all over the midwest and it handles very well up to about 65mph.

1999 5HP Johnson long shaft w/ external & internal fuel tanks is in good condition.

    Other stuff included and done:

  • 2 mains, 2 genoas, 3 spins, & 1 jib - all in fair to good condition
  • Lemar 30ST main winches & 2 cabin top 8x winches
  • New rudder
  • 2 spinker poles (1 aluminum & 1 carbon fiber)
  • New non-skid painted deck
  • Light weight traveler track with windward car
  • Jib cunningham
  • Light weight racing engine transom mount
  • All sheets and lines in good condition
  • Vermiculite has been removed w/ 3/4" floor and access panel to lift point
  • Sink drain has been sealed and depth gauge removed... speedo is the only through-hull fitting
  • Anchor/Steaming light and all in mast wiring has been removed
  • Thru-bar spreaders
  • Mast at minimum height and back at max "J" dimension
  • 2 winch handles
  • Cooler step
  • Danford anchor & rode (oversized for racing, but on Lake Michigan I wanted a bigger anchor)
  • Lifting harness
  • Full set of cushions... recovered and never used

In general the boat is ready to race and it is fast. My wife has won the women's nationals and gone to the Worlds, so it has good history. The boat is no longer set up for cruising. And, because of its age it is probably not of interest to the most hard-core racing teams, but it is an excellent first racer or training boat.

All of the upgrading & refitting I've done myself and I love talking about and teaching the process. So, feel free to give either of us a call for more details and history.
