1990 Merritt Walter 32, "JOSHUA SLOCUM"

    CONSTRUCTION: Double chine design (most of the chines are under the waterline), 3/16" mild steel plating below waterline, 10 gauge mild steel topsides, deck and cabin top. Transverse frames on 42" centers. Longitudinal frames on 12" centers. After the steel work was completed the hull was carefully sandblasted white and metalized (flame sprayed) with zinc and painted with Devoe epoxy paint.

    INTERIOR: The interior, designed for two people, was insulated with sprayed polyurethane foam (1 1/2" thick). The woodwork is attractively done in white cedar (ceiling and overhead) and trimmed in black walnut. The cabin sole is 3/8" thick teak strips with a black walnut spacers over plywood.

    ENGINE: Perkins M30 (28 h.p.) with 140 hours. Vetus water-lift wet exhaust system with Vetus gooseneck well above the waterline. Vetus exhaust alarm that signals loss of water flow. Perko 3/4" water strainer. Engine exhaust blower. Two fuel filters, Racor 200 series and a Perko fuel filter. Murphy mechanical oil pressure gauge. Engine hour meter. Single lever Morse engine control. Lifeline AGM batteries. Bronze stuffing box with drip-free packing. Speedseal rapid change impelledr system. Drivesaver installed between transmission and prop shaft protects against vibration and electrolysis. 3 blade bronze prop perfectly matched to the engine (the prop had to be repitched twice to get this right). Balmar 75 amp alternator. Lifeline Next Step regulator. West Marine 150A Battery Combiner. Link 10 Battery Bank monitor.

    SAILS & RIGGING: Mast 6" sch. 40 aluminum pipe (mast is 47' overall length and 44' above waterline and is keel stepped. Standing rigging is 5/16" Stainless wire and terminated on both ends with Sta-Lock fittings. Running backstays. Bronze turnbuckles. Inner forestay release lever for staysail. Gaff mainsail (9 oz. cloth) 320 sq. ft. with 2 reef points. Staysail 120 sq. ft. with one reef point. Jib (7 oz.) 188 sq. ft. set up with a Wykham Martin furling gear. 2 Lewmar 30 self tailing winches for jib. All sails are tanbark and in excellent condition.

    GROUND TACKLE: 45 lb. CQR on 50' 3.8" high test chain and 250' 5/8" nylon rope. 22lb. West Marine (Danforth type) anchor on 50' 3/8" high test chain and 200' 5/8" nylon rope. 35lb. Wishbone anchor. 65lb.Luke 3 piece storm anchor. Moritz manual windlass, 2 bow rollers (the CQR and Danforth can be stowed side by side). 50' extra high test chain. 200' spare 5/8" anchor rode. Special high test shackles are fitted on the anchor rodes. Chain locker in the forepeak is divided for the two anchor systems. The complete anchoring system is VERY STRONG.

    TANKAGE: Three water tanks built into the hull with a total capacity of 135 gallons. These tanks are easily accessible with large lids. Two fuel tanks with a total of 35 gallons.

    STEERING: Tiller steering, hollow outboard steel rudder. Spare tiller. Ratcliffe trim tab self steering gear (this gear was custom designed for the boat). Dirigo steel boat magnetic compass. KVH Azimuth 1000 electronic compass.

    GALLEY: Force 10 propane stove with oven. Two 20 lb. aluminum propane tanks topside. Propane grill located on deck. Double sinks. Footpumps for fresh and saltwater. Well insulated ice box.

    HEAD: LAVAC marine head with holding tank.

    ELECTRONICS: Kreuter 500' depth finder. Apelco VHF fixed radio. Icom M-7 handheld VHF radio. Garmin 65 GPS. Garmin 45 GPS.

    DINGHY: APEX 7' 5" roll up dinghy.

    CABIN INTERIOR ITEMS: Taylor kerosene heater. 3 Hella fans. 2 kerosene cabin lamps. Nine 12V interior lights (three of these are Alpenglow lights). ABI ship clock. Aqua Signal chart light.

    SOLAR PANEL: Kyocera 60 watt.

    ACCOMMODATIONS: Chain locker in forepeak. Head located forward. Two berth's located amidships (these berth's can be extended when at anchor). Large chart table located starboard. Galley located to port. Engine box covering the engine can be rolled out of the way for excellent engine access. The living area is very open. The eight 7" diameter bronze ports (1/2" heat treated glass) and four deck prisms add a lot of light down below.

    MISCELLANEOUS: A Jordan series drogue is included. Boom gallows. Edson 30 GPM hand bilge pump. Davis sextant. Many additional pieces of gear and spares are also included.

    REMARKS: "JOSHUA SLOCUM" is a sturdy little ship. Her lines always bring compliments in any port she visits. She is in excellent condition and ready to leave anytime you are.
