1974 Newport 27 "Perica"
made by Capitol Yachts
LWL 25' Draft 4'3" Beam 9'2"
34' mast (stands 39' off the water w/ antenna)
with 2800lb mooring and chain in West Grand Traverse Bay
There is no fiberglass damage and the bottom of the hull looks as it has been recently repainted. The rudder and Keel are both in remarkable shape for the boats age.
Includes Main with black Sunbrella cover, and 150+ Genoa racing sail which was brand new in 2000 and barely used.
Hood Roller furler new in 2000
Brand new Forestay in 2006!!!
Includes Dual axle trailer which has been used primarily for storage purposes but will go down the road. ( I towed it 45 minutes without a problem at all.) There are no lights at the moment but they could be added if necessary.
The boat is powered by a 30hp Atomic4 which was rebuilt in 1995 and only has 230 hours on her since rebuild according to the hourmeter. It runs great so I have no reason to doubt that. I did a tune up this summer including a Pertronix Flame Thrower High Performance Coil for better spark and starting power. The boat has a 12" three blade prop (Pitch 6RH, Bore 7/8) to move it through the water with ease.
The engine area is rigged up with lighting for a much easier time working on the motor or retrieving parts from the storage underneath.
Has Temperature, Tachometer, AMP, and Hour gauges
12volt and 120volt capable.
Full cabin lights
2 brand new batteries this spring including one Deep Cycle and 1 Marine starting. Both are wired into a dual battery switch.
Automatic battery charging system for shore power

2 companionway hatches including a full screen hatch for those warm summer nights.
Sony AM/FM Cassete stereo with speakers.
30 watt Hailer system
Two cockpit cushions new in 2002 for those long voyages.
Almost all the wood is in great shape. Looks to have been replaced at one point. Some sanding and Varnish could be done but there is no rotting on any part of the boat. Interior wood is immaculate.
2 Danforth Anchors 25' chain and 150' of rode
I do not believe the boat has ever seen saltwater, but I know it has not for the last 10 years.
I had a mooring installed in about 12 feet of water in beautiful West Grand Traverse Bay this summer as well. We can work out a deal to include this if you are interested. If slips are needed, there are transient slips available less than a half mile from the mooring at Clinch Park Marina in Traverse City, Michigan. In/Out service is 1/4 mile away at Elmwood Harbor.
6ft Dinghy is included free with purchase!!!
So many extras I can't even remember. Basically everything you need to sail safely . The boat is very stable and relatively fast in the water. It is very easy to handle under sail. I have sailed her through some rough conditions and never felt unsafe.
The boat is in the water now and can be sailed away or stored for next spring at buyers desire. I can accommodate storage for this winter if need be. I have the capability to tow this somewhere if needed as well for a reasonable charge.
We are selling it because we honestly donít have the time for a big boat and we are going to get back into dinghy sailing. I would be willing to entertain partial trades on racers such as lasers, 420's, or JY's.
Feel free to contact me with any questions, to get more pictures or to arrange a sail!
The Newport is sold! I ended up having to ebay it after I moved to Florida and lost my storage spot. Still turned out ok (5500), and it was better than having to truck it from Northern Michigan to Florida. Thanks again for all your help. Iíll be in the market for a new boat soon, and your site will be the first I search.
