1981 Rob Legg 24

  • 24 ft pocket sailor popular for racing or weekend cruising with swing up keel.
  • It was made to sleep 4 however I removed the two day berths (really just removed the cushions) to give us more storage space. I doubled the foam in the "V" berth and reupholstered the cushions. I added a bulkhead to create an enclosed Head with Porta-Potty.
  • The 9.9 hp. Mariner outboard motor runs like new and pushes the boat to about 7 Knots.
  • Sails include main sail with slugs, hank on jib and roller furling Genoa.
  • All Sheets and lines run aft for great single handed sailing.
  • Mast raising system (one person can raising or lower the mast in about 15 min or less.)
  • AM/FM stereo with CD.
  • Cockpit mounted digital depth gauge with alarm.
  • VHF radio and mast top antenna.
  • Custom made bug screen for main hatch.
  • Sail cover and sail bag.
  • Wired for dual batteries with battery switch and power meter.
  • Running lights, anchor lights and interior lights.
  • Stern mounted boarding ladder.
  • Danforth anchor with rode and pulpit hanger.
  • The trailer tongue is extendable for shallow boat ramps; the trailer axel has also been moved back so boat may be towed with outboard in place, the trailer also comes with spare tire and mount.
  • The boat has a mast top "Windex 10" wind vane.
  • 16 gallon water tank with electric pump and deck shower.
  • Two 6 gallon fuel tanks.
  • Tiller lock for more comfortable cruising.
  • 5 foot interior drop leaf table.

    Specs. On the RL 24.

  • 24' over all length
  • 19'6" water line
  • 7'4" beam
  • 1750 lbs displacement
  • 340 lbs ballast
  • 216 sq ft sail area

Boat draws less than 12 inches of water with the keel up and just over 4 feet with keel down.

With both keel and rudder being of swing type makes the boat great for both uncharted inland waters and coastal sailing where shoaling can occur.

This boat is designed to be self-righting and with built in buoyancy it won’t sink even full of water.

I bought the boat in March of 2001 and have really enjoyed learning not only about weekend cruising but also about racing and just becoming a better overall sailor.

Sailing this boat led me to sailing much bigger boats, including catamarans and even chartering a boat to sail around the Virgin Islands.
