1984 Sovereign 17, "Peggy Sue"

  • 17' LOA
  • Shoal keel
  • Displaces about 1500 lbs. (as best I recall)
  • Main & Jib sails, in fair condition (not new, but plenty of life left in them)
  • Trailer is in good shape - all lights and wiring are new, spare tire and rim are new, has curved keel guide boards for easy loading, bow catch is very sturdy, and winch works well, new roller for bow catch too
  • V-berth (small) has cushions.
  • Sink in good condition.
  • Fire extinguisher.
  • Porta-potty in cockpit in excellent condition (I never use it - so it's like new)
  • Has electrical panel and system, including lights and electric bilge pump.
  • Needs battery.
  • Hull is sound. Paint is faded, and gelcoat shows some crazing, but no soft spots, cracks, or holes. Boat does not leak a drop!
  • Motor is 1986 Johnson 6 hp 2-stroke - runs fine, though will foul plugs. Recently rebuilt the fuel pump. Mounted on adjustable stern mount - works very well.
  • Standing rigging is fine.
  • Running rigging is OK. Halyards are sound, main sheet OK, but jib sheet could use replacing.
  • No winches - not needed.
  • All pinch cleats work well
  • Jib sheet tracks work well
  • Mast and boom are aluminum - in good shape
  • Mast has one headstay and two shrouds, without spreaders. No backstay.
  • Tiller is new.
  • She has been a freshwater boat, so no significant rusting problems on boat or trailer. Brightwork could use refinishing, but is solid and sound.
  • I have the title paperwork for boat, motor, and trailer. I also have a maintenance manual for the engine, as well as a set of spare spark plugs, and a spare new impeller (not needed yet).
  • Peggy Sue is a very gentle-sailing boat. Very stable, and fun. Cabin is not large, but great for storing ice chest, gear bags, and overnight camping. Companionway door folds very nicely to the side and latches out of the way. All four portholes latch and have screens. Boat is easily single-handed. Can well accomodate four adults or a family with kids for a great weekend on the lake. Ready to trailer to your new home.
