1960's Thistle, #1844
Length: 17' All other measurements are according to the constitution
and by laws of the Thistle Assn.
Swing centerboard
Sails: All three, They appear to be in good condition and have not seen
any sunlight in years. I have no idea how old they are.
Trailer with good tires and wheels. Frame good. Needs a trailer
coupling but this one works. It will need an Axle; the new bearings I
put in the hubs were not a good fit and everything on the axle is an odd
size. Easier to replace at about 150 bucks. All lights and wiring are
new and work with a standard 4 prong plug.
She was built in CA and lived in Delaware and Maryland.
This is a bare bones racer; one of the fastest and most beautiful hulls ever built. She has everything needed to satisfy her race class; and enough to get her to the race.
She is not race ready. Though most of her teak has been
replaced over the years there are three pieces left to do. Anyone with a
good table saw can handle that. The are all around the centerboard
trunk.... no curved cuts. There are a couple of minor dings in the
glass..... easily repaired. The long term work will be prepping her for
a proper either jell coat or paint job. Someone saw fit to cover her in
house paint. This is basicly a good project boat with lots of rewards
at the end. If she was race ready the price tag would be a lot higher.
If this was my only boat you would never see it listed here. I will
send more pics to anyone who asks.
I can offer to deliver her free to any Texas address. Beyond
that we might negotiate at around a buck a mile.
Hi David,
I finally sold the Thistle #1844. I took $600 for it and
delivered it to Delaware and stopped in to say hi to Mom. It found a
good home and will be sailing from the Delaware River Yacht club from
whence it came. Thanks for your help.
regards, jack
