1981 Vagabond 17

  • This boat was special ordered by the original owner in 1981 in orange and white. This boat looks new and has always been stored in a residential garage. I stored it in the garage with a cover on it. The teak and deck are still in excellent condition. The gelcoat is not dull and still shines like a new boat. In fact, someone came up to me at the lake and asked me if it was a new boat. The boat, motor and the trailer have never been in salt water. The original sails are in excellent condition and they have never been put away wet.

The Vagabond 17 is easy to sail, very responsive, and fast for a mono-hull boat its size.

Standard features include hand laid fiberglass construction, 345 lb. swing keel, teak handrails, stainless bow pulpit, Harken blocks, kick-up rudder, positive foam floatation, anodized aluminum spars, a double and two single berths, porta-potti in the cabin, bunk cushions, and three dacron sails with sheets. There is a compartment for a battery to power the running lights and an interior light. There is also an added socket to plug in an anchor light or a 12-volt fan for ventilation, but there is no battery installed. It also has a sink with an operational faucet and water storage tank. It also has all of the plywood pieces for turning the complete cabin into berths.

    Specifications:

  • LOA 17'-0"
  • LWL 15'-0"
  • Beam 7'- 3"
  • Draft K/U 1'-8"
  • Draft K/D 4'-2"
  • Displ. - 950 lb.
  • Main (Vector) - 82 Sq. Ft.
  • Jib (Vector) - 65 Sq. Ft.
  • Genoa (Odyssey) - 87 Sq. Ft.

Included are three sails in bright colors (red, orange and yellow), Lewmar winches, mounted aluminum stern ladder, anchor and line, fenders.

The outboard is a 1974 model 4 H.P. Evinrude that the original owner purchased new. Retained paperwork includes the receipt, Owner's Manual, and registration card. The motor comes with a metal 3-gallon tank which stows neatly in an out-of-the-way compartment in the cockpit.

The trailer is a galvanized 1981 Dilly trailer with 1 7/8" ball hitch, spare tire and wheel, dolly, bearing buddies, and a keel guide for easy loading. Wheel bearings were replaced in 2004 and are still in great shape. Tires are new with galvanized wheels.

I pulled this boat with a Chevrolet S10 Blazer with no problem.

This boat is ready to sail, today! More pictures available.

    David,
You did it again. The V17 sold today. Eight days isn't bad. Sold it to a nice guy from Texas City. Sailingtexas.com is the only place to sell a sailboat. I had many interested parties and 3 fraud emails. I appreciate your warning of these crazy emails. Money has been sent your way through paypal. Sorry to hear (read) about your cancer experience. It sounds as if everything is going well. You will be in my prayers.
    Thanks,
    Darrell
