1973 West Wight Potter HMS 18

  • Truly a classic trailer sailor, with a roomy cabin, stout retracting keel, and the easiest boat I have ever launched and retrieved. Herb Stewart was the first to manufacture the West Wight Potter in the US, and he designed and built the HMS 18 to be the bigger brother of the West Wight Potter. He ultimately sold the company, and the new owners included the length of the motor mount and marketed the boat as the West Wight Potter 19! Herb Stewart was known for his high build quality, which is evident when you see and sail this pocket cruiser! This is Hull # 33

This is a very solid, seaworthy, stable boat, and it feels like a much bigger boat. When it's really blowing, we're often the only boat on the Bay!

Complete topsides re-fit in 2006 including:

  • 2 coats of Petit Easypoxy Hi-build Primer
  • 2 coats of Easypoxy single component polyurethane
  • New IDA Sailor composite rudder
  • New CDI Flexible Furler
  • New 140% Genoa (Elvstom Sobstad Sailmakers)
  • New Mainsail (Elvstrom Sobstad Sailmakers)
  • New Thin film bottom paint
  • Proper boom vang added

    Done in 2005:

  • New keel raising winch/blocks/cables, conveniently located for the helmsman
  • Trailer primed, painted, side guides added, new wheel bearings, new wheels and tires, lights and wiring, etc.

    Specifications:

  • L.O.A. 18'3"
  • L.W.L. 16' 0"
  • Beam 7'6"
  • Draft 12"
  • Draft Keel Down 3'11"
  • Keel Weight 400 lbs
  • Weight 1400 lbs

Includes all cabin cushions, in good shape, and new cockpit cushions, and removable cockpit table

Cabin has four 6'6" bunks, two dinette seats, removable dining table, 5' sitting head room, space for porta-pot, lots of storage lockers, etc. We even have the original bill of sale. This a great boat!

Outboard available for additional cost (very nice 2000 Nissan 5 HP 4 stroke)

    Hi David,
The boat is sold. We didn't get as much as we'd hoped, but given the current economic situation, we happy! Thanks again for your wonderful website.
