My ongoing personal cancer experience, click here
My wife Alison continues to research cancer and diet, and has organized the information on one of her websites, Femtalk USA. Here's a link to her Hit cancer hard page, where she really puts the options together for getting rid of cancer, and has links to her other pages about cancer.
I wrote Sailing - Lifts and Headers on 5/20/09, I hope it helps you sail upwind with a little more fun.
When sailing and the wind shifts, it is either a lift or header, never right or left.
A lift comes more from the side, and allows us to turn the boat more into the wind, or upwind, so we can lift our course up.
A header comes more from the front, and forces us to bear off and turn downwind, not the way we want to go, our course changing down.
However, this gives us an opportunity. When we get a header, we can tack, and the header instantly becomes a lift!
Our life is much like this, what is obviously a bad header, is also a wonderful lift, it just depends on which way we need to go, and whether we turn. The opportunity is there, but it is our choice whether or not to turn, and as you know, we sometimes turn the wrong way, and are surprised. But it was our choice, and even when we turn the wrong way, we learn, and if we learn, perhaps our next choice is better, and our course in life is lifted.

The two most popular parts of Sailing Texas are the Sailboat Classifieds and the Photo Gallery. The Sailboats for Sale section usually has over 250 sailboats for sale, most with pictures. The Photo Gallery contains over 6,000 sailboats that have been listed for sale on Sailing Texas since 2002, a useful resource for anyone buying or selling a sailboat, and about 1,000 boats are added each year.
The Sailing Texas Forums now have over 520 registered members, with the Sailboat Wanted section the most popular. The How To and Video sections often have new articles on how to sail and repair sailboats. The Sailing Texas Bookstore has just about every book and video on sailing and sailboats. Find a place to rent or charter a sailboat on the Sailboat Rentals page. With over 6.0 gigabytes of information online, I'm sure you will find Sailing Texas useful. With over 6,000 webpages, some things can be hard to find, so use the Search function to search Sailing Texas.
My first sailing video on the site was at the 2006 Easter Laser Regatta. Scott Young took the left end of the starting line in race 2. In this video you can see his start strategy, he is sail #177033 just past the orange chase boat. Sitting on the line, at 2 seconds before the start he leans his boat to leeward. At the start he pulls it back to accelerate across the line, then as soon as he's across he bears off a bit and does a quick roll tack to cut in front of all the racers still on starboard tack. A beautiful start to go on to win the race. Click the start triangle once or twice to play the movie, this video requires the Flash plug-in and audio.
Make Sailing Texas your home page (or one of your favorites at least.
